3 Tips For Bamboo Flooring Care-Preventing Damage And Wear

Bamboo floors have many unique qualities in their construction and composition. It's important to keep these unique qualities in mind when thinking about bamboo flooring care.

For starters, it's important to note that bamboo is a grass and its treatment is different than traditional hardwood. It does not grow solidly as a tree but develops as a long thin hollow tube. Construction of bamboo flooring is achieved by weaving strands of bamboo together with the application of heat and pressure. So how does this pertain to the caring and cleaning of your bamboo floor? Below are some insights to keep in mind:

1. Bamboo is more susceptible to staining when subjected to spills. Failing to immediately wipe up spills from your will cause the liquid to seep within the layers of bamboo. Wiping up spills immediately is helpful to gaurd against stains and keep your bamboo floor looking new.

2. It is important to follow manufacturer's instructions for a list of allowable products to use with your bamboo floors. Many over the counter cleaning products - and floor wax in particular - can leave a build up on your bamboo flooring. When it comes time to refinishing your bamboo floor, the leftover buildup will prevent adherence of a new finish.

3. Try to avoid rubber placing rugs with a rubber mat backing on your bamboo floors. This rubber mat holds in moisture and causes discoloration. Using rugs with a breathable material, that doesn't hold in moisture will prevent this.
